ICT for Peace focuses on the visibility of people and experiences that generate and promote the «Culture of Peace through social use of new technologies.» The first edition was held in the House of Peace and Human Rights in San Sebastian, in the Basque Country, Spain, on 23 and 24 October 2012.
Each year we try to focus the Congress on specific topic related to technology and culture of peace. Thus, in the first edition in 2012 the meeting focused on «Women, Technology and Democracy for Social Change» dedicated to the role of women as protagonists of the changes that are occurring in their societies, by using the information and communications technology, because of its commitment to peace, freedom, equality and justice.
This event highlighted the actions that women who are taking place in different parts of the world: Spain, Syria, Egypt, China, Mexico, Tunisia, Uganda, USA, Latin America. The ICT for Peace 2012 Conference featured a panel of exceptional women, which brought together for two days, candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize, human rights activists, social entrepreneurs, bloggers, institutional representatives, journalists, etc. Between them:
Jolly Okot Director of Invisible Children in Uganda, candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005; Gloria Bonder, UNESCO Coordinator of Women, Science and Technology in Latin America; Mari Kuraishi, Co-Founder of Globalgiving.org; Judith Torrea, specializing in drug crimes and impunity in Ciudad Juarez journalist; Razan Ghazzawi, one of the most influential bloggers and e-activists in Syria; Tsering Woeser, Poet and blogger «Invisible Tibet»; Paula Gonzalo, Co-director of Citizen Journalism; Manal Hassan, Egyptian blogger, author of the blog Manal and Alaa awarded by Reporters in Borders; Lali Sandiumengue, author of the blog Warriors keyboard; Manuela Mesa, President of the Spanish Association for Peace Research; Carmen Magallon, President Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom in Spain; Barbara Navarro, European Director of Public Policy and Institutional Affairs for Google.

Specific Goals:
1. Create, publicize, exchange and promote all kinds of plans, programs, projects and activities that are intended to promote the use of technology for the creation and promotion of culture of peace.
2. Demonstrate and visualize the importance of social use of technology as a means to create a culture of peace, through projects of its protagonists.
3. Gather about 150-170 experts and professionals from all areas, at international level, who are working in real, creative and innovative initiatives in the social use of technology for the development of a Culture of Peace
4. Generate networking among participants (allowing generation of real projects).
5. Be a Forum of international and multistakeholder reference for Culture of Peace and ICT.
